The origin of country music can be traced back into the 1920s. This music was characterized by the heavy use of guitar, buss, drums and steel guitar. During this time, music played a significant role in the society like dog treats just as it does today-that of passing information to the members of society, ridicule those in authority and as a major source of entertainment. However, these artists have not fitted well in the old country music style. These artists have only changed the style, appearance and the way they are doing it thus promoting alternative country music. Because they are aware that this music does not fall in any genre or sub-genre of country music they have named it alternative country music as a bet to win support for their music and also gain country and outside country fame.
However, there is a general problem among many people on how to make a distinction between country and alternative country music. How can one tell whether music is country or alternative country music? This has been and is likely to remain a challenge to many of us. Another intriguing question is whether or not other veins of music such as rock, pop and blues can be categorized as alternative country music.
